When good girls go bad, very, very bad. The minute Carrie meets tattooed, bad-boy bartender Dallon, her decision is made. He’s the one, her ticket to freedom and a new, independent life. She’s tired of dictates and zero dates and following the path laid out before her by her well-meaning-but-completely-out-of touch-with-her-reality religious parents. Dallon sees the buttoned-up, full-of-curves woman outside the grocery store and feels the flames of hell licking at his heels. When she asks him for directions to the large, nearby university where she’s starting work, his gut-twisting lust for her doesn’t diminish, but those flames start to singe his tough-as-nails hide. With Dallon’s promise of not sleeping with anyone associated with the university his father is the dean of about to go up in smoke, Carrie takes the first exit off the Heavenly Highway straight onto Sin Street. She wants Dallon to teach her all the things a good girl should never know, and she won’t take Hell no for an answer. Reader Advisory: What Dallon does with a beer bottle may be illegal in forty-eight out of fifty states. and at least two territories.

2014 National Book Award FinalistA New York Times BestsellerAn audacious, darkly glittering novel set in the eerie days of civilization?s collapse, Station Eleven tells the spellbinding story of a Hollywood star, his would-be savior, and a nomadic group of actors roaming the scattered outposts of the Great Lakes region, risking everything for art and humanity. One snowy night Arthur Leander, a famous actor, has a heart attack onstage during a production ofKing Lear. Jeevan Chaudhary, a paparazzo-turned-EMT, is in the audience and leaps to his aid. A child actress named Kirsten Raymonde watches in horror as Jeevan performs CPR, pumping Arthur?s chest as the curtain drops, but Arthur is dead. That same night, as Jeevan walks home from the theater, a terrible flu begins to spread. Hospitals are flooded and Jeevan and his brother barricade themselves inside an apartment, watching out the window as cars clog the highways, gunshots ring out, and life disintegrates around them. Fifteen years later, Kirsten is an actress with the Traveling Symphony. Together, this small troupe moves between the settlements of an altered world, performing Shakespeare and music for scattered communities of survivors. Written on their caravan, and tattooed on Kirsten?s arm is a line from Star Trek: ?Because survival is insufficient. But when they arrive in St. Deborah by the Water, they encounter a violent prophet who digs graves for anyone who dares to leave. Spanning decades, moving back and forth in time, and vividly depicting life before and after the pandemic, this suspenseful, elegiac novel is rife with beauty. As Arthur falls in and out of love, as Jeevan watches the newscasters say their final good-byes, and as Kirsten finds herself caught in the crosshairs of the prophet, we see the strange twists of fate that connect them all. A novel of art, memory, and ambition, Station Eleven tells a story about

Nineteen-year-old Free Meeker has a shaved head, a nose ring, and a tattoo of Chinese characters around her biceps. She has a career, if you can call it that, as a pet groomer. And she has just learned that she is pregnant, and that her boyfriend is a two-timing bastard. Then a disastrous highway pile-up erroneously adds her name to its list of victims – and hands Free a chance for a new life. In the chaos of the fiery accident, she acquired the identity papers of the hitchhiker who is mistaken for her – plus a gym bag filled with $740,000 in drug money that otherwise would have been burned up. Go, Free, go! Free sets out to transform herself into Lydia, the sweet-faced girl whose identity she has assumed. Raised by aging hippies, Free has always secretly longed to be more “normal,” to try shaving her underarms instead of her head. Now she has a chance to make herself over. But Free doesn’t know that two men are hot on her trail. One man wants the money back. If he doesn’t get it soon, he knows he will end up dead. The other man wants his wife back. He doesn’t know the real Lydia died in the accident, on the run from his pathological abuse. Now he is determined to “teach her a lesson” – even if the lesson is fatal. Misty The Freeway Foxhound: The Dog Who Became A Legend

Misty The Freeway Foxhound: The Dog Who Became A Legend

$10.49

Misty the Freeway Foxhound was so named, because it was on a cold misty November morning that she was first sighted. Looking like a discarded old plastic milk jug to passersby, the dog had curled up to sleep in the mud and snow near a lightpost beside a busy interstate highway. Speculation had it that Misty had once been someone’s pet. Perhaps they had let her out of the car at the interchange truck stop and she’d wandered off? Since she wasn’t wearing a collar with a name tag, maybe she’d been dumped there deliberately? When her story made the local newspapers, one man immediately came forward and insisted the dog’s real name was Patsy Cline. He said that his initials had been tattooed inside both her ears. The man further contended that Patsy had never returned home from the last fox hunt they’d been on. A supposed second owner also claimed to have lost Misty while on a fox hunt. He said she had been called Patches. Whatever her real name was, everyone felt sorry for the handsome looking hound with tan ears and a big brown spot on her side. Many people carried food and water to her, but no one ever got close enough to touch her. Several people attempted to capture Misty, but she always managed to “outfox them”, so to speak. She’d lie in one place, then quickly dart away from anyone she felt came too close. As time went by, one thing became perfectly clear. This dog had made a spot near the interstate her home and she had no intention of leaving until her master returned for her. Sadly for Misty, that day never came. This book is not just a story about an old man and a dog, or a lost dog living near an interstate. It explores the phenomenon of unconditional love that flows both ways between human beings and their animal companions. Whether you are a young or a young-at-heart reader, “Misty the Freeway Foxhound” is bound to touch you in some way.
