Critical Considerations – Is It Okay To Use Taxpayer Money To Finance Tattoo Removal?
Were you aware that one out of every four people in the United Kingdom is reckoned to possess a permanent tattoo? Furthermore, some other studies have shown that one out of every four individuals who already have the tattoo will live to regret the decision and begin to think about tattoo removal as the years pass. Does this imply that the government should spend additional money in “anti-tattoo” marketing? This may seem to be particularly the case if we believe recent reports that reveal that some job hunters are being allocated public funds to help with their laser tattoo removal.
It appears that job centre staff have already been told that they’re allowed to use taxpayer money to fund this removal if it can be proven that the presence of the tattoo is, fundamentally, a hurdle to them obtaining gainful employment. We all know that several employers will, all things considered, not consider accepting someone if a tattoo is in a highly visible place such as on the face or perhaps the neck.
It’s definitely correct that at some point a tattoo was not socially acceptable and seemed to be prominent only in some subcategories of society. A great deal has changed through the years and some notable public figures have admitted to getting tattoos, albeit maybe not in really obvious to identify places. Many reasons exist for planning to remove a tattoo and not all are connected to job prospects. For example, in the event you got one that proclaimed undying love to a former companion, this could be a fairly awkward situation if you separated and found yourself “on the market” yet again.
While laser tattoo removal can certainly be a tad expensive if you don’t have any meaningful employment and for that reason a prominent source of income, it is even so great to know that the choice is available should you in fact be one of the 25% of UK adults who regrets your earlier choice.

The Tattoo $18.68 "A book about ‘the sins of the fathers.’ . . . A gritty, troubling book."-The Honolulu Advertiser "The other Hawai’i, the one tourists never get to see."-Ian MacMillan Ken Hideyoshi is the new guy in Halawa Correctional Institute. He’s tough looking, a hard case, observes his cellmate Cal-the mute tattoo artist of the prison, a wife murderer. SYN, a gang symbol, is tattooed on his hand, and he has a Japanese emblem inscribed on his left shoulder. He asks Cal for a tattoo on his back, in kanji script, of Musashi’s Book of the Void. While he is being worked on, he tells Cal his life story, a tale of hardship and abuse. Motherless, he was raised by a distant father, a Vietnam War veteran, in the impoverished hinterlands. In his teen years he hung out with the native Hawaiian gangs and was drawn into the Hawaiian-Korean underworld of strip bars and massage parlors. His ambition and proud samurai spirit seem, inevitably, to lead to his downfall. Chris McKinney is of Korean, Japanese, and Scottish descent. He was born in Honolulu and grew up in Kahaluu. He portrays the native Hawaiian experience from the inside, where children of mixed ethnicity grow up far from the clear water and pristine beaches of the rich visitors’ resorts. |

The Tattoo Artist $3.95 Jill Ciment’s writing has been called "luminous . . . sad, affecting" (Michiko Kakutani, The New York Times) and "rich in observation and insight" (Merle Rubin, Los Angeles Times). Now in her new novel, her third, Jill Ciment turns her eye to a painter’s world in the early years of the twentieth century and tells the story of an American woman, an acclaimed artist who’s been stranded on an island for thirty years. The novel opens in New York in the 1970s. Sara Ehrenreich has returned to New York to much fanfare–Life magazine has arranged for her return and is doing a big feature on her. Sara had been living on a remote speck in the South Pacific for three decades, and she has returned to the city of her childhood and early adulthood, a city made totally different by thirty years of technological and social change. As Sara experiences all of the sensations of entering a new world, the novel flashes back to tell the story of her life, of herself at eighteen, a Lower East Side shopgirl meeting the man who changes the course of her life–Philip Ehrenreich, a banker’s son and revolutionary, an avant-garde artist who hasn’t made art in years. Philip introduces Sara to everything from Dada to Marx, from free love to automatic drawing, from trayf to absinthe. Philip sees her art as his chance to create by proxy. They fall in love, marry, and form a collaboration, and by the late 1920s, she takes her place among a small group of famous American Modernists. As the Depression hits and his family money and her corps of collectors vanish, Philip and Sara are forced to embrace the proletarian life that he had romanticized and that she had fled. In desperation, they sell what is left of his prized collection of Oceanic masks, and their lives are forever altered when one of Philip’s patrons hires him to collect masks in the South Seas. Sara and Philip book passage on a Japanese ship that drops them off on Ta’un’uu, an island famous both for its masks and its full-body tattooing. The ship that was to pick them up never returns, bewilderment turns into panic, then resignation, and, finally, to a peace neither husband nor wife has known before. When the Second World War breaks out months later and Philip and half the men of the island are killed by Japanese soldiers, Sara turns to her painting for salvation. She learns the art of tattooing and begins the painting that will be her masterpiece–the tattooing of her own body. A beautifully written novel, powerful in its portrayal of the world it creates and the ideas it is taken up with–ideas of immortality through art, and of the here-and-now-ness of life and experience. |
